In 2016, SUTRA initiated documentation of Java batik and other Indonesian textiles in the collection of Nandan Museum, Kala Bhavana at Santiniketan. Rabindranath Tagore had brought Java batiks and other textiles when he visited Java and Bali in 1927. He introduced Batik painting at his university after he returned from Java.

Dr Maria Wronska Friend, international expert on Batik, James Cook University, Australia and a speaker at SUTRA's Batik Sutra event in November 2011, came and stayed in Santiniketan for two weeks in November/ December 2016 to document these textiles.

Later in 2017, Nandan Museum plans to release a book of Rabindranath Tagore's Batik and Indonesian textile collection.
